Irish Wolfhound: Personality & Health Issues
Irish Wolfhound:
The ancient Irish Wolfhound is one of the largest dogs on earth. Comparing this canine giant, whose average weight is more than 110 lbs., with a small Italian Greyhound (average 6 lbs.) gives a striking indication of the differences in physical size in the canine world. Some historians say it was produced by cross-breeding the Irish Sheepdog with the Sloughi. Others believe that it was bred by combining these two dogs with Scottish Deerhounds.
The majestic dog was once, as its name would suggest, used to hunt wolves. Its powerful jaws and impressive muscular structure made it highly suitable for strenuous sport. Yet despite its colossal height and energetic nature, the Irish Wolfhound can be very docile and quiet (they are actually one of the top 10 worst watchdogs).
