As you may have already heard, Menu Foods has voluntarily recalled most of its "cuts and gravy" type dog and cat food products that were made with tainted wheat gluten, causing liver failure in what could amount to thousands of cats and dogs in the US, Canada, and Europe. The manufacturing dates of the tainted pet food fall between November 8, 2006 and March 6, 2007.
Menu Foods has reported that the source of the tainted wheat gluten found in these products originated with one of thier suppliers, a company named ChemNutra Inc., who in turn imported the wheat gluten from a company named Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Development Co., in Wangdien, China. This is the latest expanded list of pet food products recalled in the United States and Canada:

A lack of thiamine (causing 21 reports of health issues in cats) has prompted Diamond Pet Foods to recall certain brands of their dry cat foods, removed from store shelves on Sept 23/09. Thiamine is essential for a cat's health, and a lack of this nutrient can result in neurological, and gastrointestinal issues. It may even cause death if left untreated.
Which Brands Of Cat Food Are Affected?
Certain bags of "Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat" and "Premium Edge Hairball" purchased in the following states could be affected: New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The reported health issues occured in New York and Pennsylvania.
What Symptoms Indicate A Thiamine Deficiency?
You may notice a decrease in appetite, excessive salivation, weight loss and vomiting. Neurological symptoms include seizures, "drunken" walking, circling, and falling.
