Staffordshire Bull Terrier: Health Issues & Personality
Staffordshire Bull Terrier:
Strong and tenacious like the Bulldog, and agile like the Old English Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was bred generations ago as a fighting dog. Though it has lost little of its original bellicosity, it is now considered a good companion animal, one that demonstrates great affection for its owners, and is particularly kind with children.
These qualities, coupled with its indomitable courage and intelligence, make it a trustworthy all-purpose dog. It is not hostile with people, unless provoked, or encouraged to attack. A medium sized dog, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is robust, powerful, and athletic. Plenty of exercise on a regular basis is essential to its physical and mental well being.
Daily brushing of the coat to eliminate dead hair and to keep it shiny is essential. Gently clean around the eyes with cotton balls that have been moistened with tepid water that has been boiled. Nails must be cut with special clippers if the dog does not have the opportunity to wear them down itself. They are one of the best guard dogs available.
